The Absurdness of Blogging

February 7, 2012  |  Random, Rants

Okay I would like to take this chance and warn each and every reader of this blog or those who stumbled here by complete accident; this post will be majorly ranty and will probably contain curse words but I will try and limit those.

Blogging

So, I’m an old school blogger, I belong to the school that believes in sending out messages with each post and showing our thoughts and interests in a creative yet non invading way.

OldBlogger

I am extremely upset with the new school of bloggers that we see nowadays because well to tell you the truth “that ain’t bloggin’ honey!” Seriously it’s not!

Here are my Top 5 pet peeves about New School Bloggers:

  1. Posting YouTube videos (separately and labelling them as “Viral” or “Potential Viral”) [Yes I went there and I'm talking about your blog! And it's not even a FREAKIN' BLOG!] Since when are YouTube videos decent “content.”
  2. Posting A THOUSAND times a day simply featuring a picture here, a video there, a song here, and some insane shit there! Blogging is about QUALITY and not QUANTITY!
  3. Copy-pasting or just plain stealing content from other local blogs or major blogs in the world. Dipshit, I read Gizmodo, I read Engadget, I know what is being posted there and when I see the same post on your blog without a Source I know that you’re a mofo!
  4. Censoring weird things mainly photos of celebrities and such. If you don’t like the cleavage or the ass that’s showing in that photo just delete it and don’t post it, don’t display a “Holier than thou” persona because let’s face it no one is that holy!
  5. Copying news from news agencies and pretending to be a magazine or newspaper. Let’s face it, the closest thing your blog will ever get to a magazine or newspaper is nothing really, you’re as close as the moon is to the sun!

Blogging Lesson

In short, blogging is sharing opinions mostly because it is a Web Log! There are some bloggers out there who established a name for themselves and are authentic enough to be able to pull off reporting on events and such because they worked hard on it.  But you coming out here with a “Youtube” post, a few lyrics being posted, a picture here and there and telling me that this is what I should be doing; well to you I say BUZZ OFF!

You want to share your videos, do it in a classy way: combine the shit up! You want to post a thousand times a day then tell me something that’s important something that I won’t get from other media outlets.  You want to copy paste others work well for that I say go kill yourself because that is just plain WRONG! Censorship is something you should practice on your ownself don’t be all angelic when you yourself see this shit everyday! And don’t pretend that you’re a magazine or newspaper, let’s face it these media outlets have been available for decades now and they had to establish the level of trust the public has in them.

I am sorry for this rant but it’s something that was on my chest for so long and I had to get it out there.  The points above do not specifically include certain bloggers but if the shoe fits then oh well.  In fact, based on what I see out there a lot of bloggers out there have these points but are still doing better than others.  I might even be guilty of some of these points (although I hope I’m not) but it just doesn’t feel like blogging in Kuwait is anything but a money making machine.

About the author

I am a Kuwaiti 28 year old Apple and gadget freak, who gets bored of her blog layouts so much that I change them like I crazy. Currently I work in a newspaper (part time) and if you don't see me around I'm being sucked into my job reviewing TV Shows and APPS! This is my space where I vent and release everything, welcome to it.

  1. yeah ive expressed my disdain one too many times. i don’t even remember when’s the last time i checked botamba ad its a complete waste of time.

Blogs have become impersonal, identical and full of useless shit.

And the funniest part is that if someone steals their stolen post they rant about intellectual property rights!

7asafa, the blogging scene was so promising.

  2. Ouch !!!

    Hahahahaha I agree ;)

  3. Im glad someone said it out loud, especially those video only bloggers. Many are just pushing anything out there to get hits and monetize. And many as we saw during the cap sold their opinions for the ISPs money.

I rarely blog now, and I tried down ad offers simply because I lack the time to publish something worthy.

So I stick to twitter and Google+. Speaking of which, +1

  4. I’m not really sure what is supposed to appear in a good blog. It seems like coming up with original content is becoming increasingly difficult. Anyone with a keyboard and an internet connection can search and post with ease, but this isn’t blogging. This is more like creating a collage, which is fine, if you are an artist. Otherwise you are a plagarist. There are a number of sites that allow you to perform free plagarism checks. Face it, you’re not fooling anyone.

I enjoy informative, well crafted blogs (such as this one) where I can read about things that I don’t have time to research or try out myself. Bottom line: It’s nice to be able to trust the content I’m reading.

In the words of the immortal rap group, Public Enemy, “fight the power!” Thanks for the awesome blog, Jacqui!

PS. I’m still waiting on that Audi review. :P

  5. finally… someone has said what was pissing me off about blogging..

    thank you for this!!!

blogs 3 years ago was something, it used to be personal and each with an identity.. now, its plain advertising and nothing useful.. as you said money making..

i miss the old school blogging..

  6. I miss those days as well :( and some old bloggers

  7. I think I know some so called “Blog” that fits the description perfectly :-) “Hallelujah” .. Preach !!! :-)

  8. nothing wrong of blogs going commerical as far as they are not fooling their readers and followers .. i Believe there are no Rules for blogging because every and each blog reflecting the personalty of the owner plus nothing wrong of posting about songs or sharing youtube video as i do and alot ..

mostly i post about a song i do like and i want to share my mood with my readers .. believe me they are no old and new school it’s about how people see theirselves thru their blogs …

the only think that i hate that when people using thier blog and adveritments magazine *some of old blogs* but still it’s their blog and the way that want to operate their blog.

    thanx for sharing hun ;*

  9. Praise The Lord … Bless You For This Post My Dear Jacqui :*

You can post a song or a clip you liked like once a month but not 15 times per day … that’s just plain boring, stupid & it shows you know shit about blogging!

  10. WOW! I was thinking the same thing the other day about blogs with tons of useless posts per day and YouTube videos, that just makes the blog cheap!

  11. I wholeheartedly agree :*

  12. I AGREE I AGREE!!!
I miss the old bloggers where I actually read information, stories, updates, ANYTHING. Not only saw stupid pictures and videos!

I stopped really reading blogs now except for a couple that still are interesting.

  13. I agree. If it’s not new, useful or beautiful, it’s not worth posting. I used to read a lot of blogs. My RSS. Reader was my daily read. The content has been diluted by so much dribble that I know I’m wasting my time. I now go to certain blogs occasionally and catch up with their content. Daily reading has gone back to books and mags.

  14. enigma : I totally agree it used to be personal now it’s nothing but commercial ads with a simple hint of personalized items here and there. At least there are some blogs who remain personal.

Delicately Realistic : What can I say gone are the days where I would read someone’s experiences and apply what they learned in life to what I could learn :/ Allah kareem.

Bashar : I agree hehe and in regards to those video blogs well they should use Facebook/Twitter/Etc to spread the word about the latest videos and not a blog since it’s not blog worthy material. To me I would rather take a break from blogging than post pointless posts. And thanks for the +1 :P

Mo_Coffee_Plz : Audi review will be in shortly and well regardless of how difficult it is to create unique content there are thousands of ways to spin a story, you have more than an angle and well it should be pursued rather than plagiarized.

Standy : I miss it too and I had to say it, I can’t sit there and watch it deteriorate.

    shwaish : Holla :*

    Chikapappi : True Dat!

G-Funk : Hehehe I know many that fit that description and some that charge you to feature you in a post a-la-”Al Wasee6″ style :P

Rainy : There is a thing called “Old School” and “New School” it’s applicable to everything and well some can over-do this act of sharing a song or video they like. I remember back in the day I did share a song in a month or a video of something insane but that was just 1 song or 1 video not a daily dosage of 10 videos and nothing but that! There is a difference. And commercial blogs are a problem when it comes to offering honest opinions which not many do. Just because so-and-so company gave you something to write something positive about them doesn’t mean that they are positive there are some that are positive and kudos to them but those are very rare.

swera : Exactly that’s what I’ve tried to portray in my message but not everyone saw it as that way. But oh well.

May : 100% True! I like to read about your life, I like to know what ticks you off and makes you happy. I remember writing about college life and it was fun for me, I didn’t care about what the reader thought because in the end it’s my personal blog! My personal space unfortunately not many see it as that way anymore.

    Swair : Hollaaaa :P

Chirp : Of which mine has to be on that little list isn’t it? :P Hint hint.. Just kidding but seriously I agree with you gone are the glory golden days and all we’re left with is the dusty particles of where the greats and giants used to be.

BuYousef : I can’t wait to see that day nowadays I keep the blogs to a minimum rarely do I add new ones if I used to read you in 2004 – 2008 then you’re still on the list, I rarely add new ones unless they are worth it in a way.
