Did you know that Microsoft holds an annual worldwide competition for students and that every year students from all over the world participate including ones from Kuwait?

I personally didn’t!

It was brought to my attention that Imagine Cup 2012 is an annual competition that is held by Microsoft worldwide that lets students from all over the world (ages 16 – 26 years old) participate in.  Every year, students from Kuwait participate and compete in the Gulf competition in Dubai and the top three teams advance to the World Wide Finals.  The finals are held in a different country each year.

This year however, for the first time ever, we will have a local competition in Kuwait instead of the Gulf competition.  Students from all over Kuwait will compete in the Software Design category.  The first place winning team will advance to the World Wide Finals in Sydney, Australia.

You can definitely find out more details at Imagine Cup. However, if you would like to know some key points from previous Imagine Cups check them out below:

  • Last year, a team from AUK (American University of Kuwait) represented Kuwait in the World Wide Finals in New York.
  • Students in Kuwait should register at Imagine Cup Gulf before February 28 to compete in this year’s Software Design competition.
  • This year for the first time ever they will have a Windows Phone 7 Mobile Development comeptition with the support from Zain.  Mobile Development competition winners will get prizes from Zain but will not advance to the World Wide Finals.
  • The finals event in Kuwait will be held April 12, 2012 at The Regency Kuwait.  Anyone can register to attend here.

Thanks to Shayma from Microsoft Kuwait for bringing this to our attention.  We hope that everyone who is interested gets a chance to participate.

[Save the Date: April 12, 2012 - The Regency Kuwait]

UPDATE: The Finals event will be on the 10th of April at Salwa Al-Sabah Hall in Salmiya. Register free at: http://imaginecup12.eventbrite.com

  1. I didn’t know either. It’s a good opportunity for young people to spend time productively.
