Guess What Apple Just Unveiled?

February 16, 2012  |  Apple, New Products

A few moments ago Apple just unveiled the developer preview version of its latest OSX operating system which will be named “Mountain Lion.”  The developer preview went live at 8:30 a.m. EST today and is available to Apple’s legions of app makers.

What does “Mountain Lion” bring to you as a user?

Well it’s moving the shift between iOS and OSX (i.e. your Mac and iPad/iPhone will be more than cousins or brothers they will soon be one!) One of the insane features is that iChat will no longer be there but instead you will have iMessage and Twitter built in!

Yes I said it iMessage and Twitter! Wooooohooooo! No I don’t need to constantly be on my phone to check my latest messages I can send them from my beautiful sexy Mac!

But that’s not all the new features there are plenty more which can definitely be viewed in this video and I for one can’t wait for the summer when this sexy piece of meat will be out!

Some features are:

  • New Desktop (It offers you a proper galaxy as a background image)
  • Notifications are now available  (Kind of reminiscent of the Facebook Ticker; sorta but not really)
  • Reminders will be built in (Your To-Do List from your iPhone and iPad will be there!)
  • iMessage everywhere and anywhere
  • Pages will officially meet iCloud
  • Airplay (with an Apple TV)
  • Pin a Note to keep it handy on your desktop (something I’ll definitely enjoy!)
  • Share sheets via Twitter
  • Twitter Integration EVERYWHERE! (Even in Photobooth!)
  • GameCenter
  • One more thing: Improvements for Chinese Users!
COMING SOON THIS SUMMER 2012!

  1. I currently have OSX Lion, is this an upgrade for my MacBook, or do I need to purhase a new one with the new OS? Thanks, Jacquies. 💻📲

  2. Didn’t we just upgrade? Iphone upgrade is usually much less of a hassle than MacBook, not to mention free. Is that one free?

Last time I upgraded it took me a week to get back my env working. It also never ran fully as it was.

  3. does this mean i have to upgrade my puter?

  4. This will probably not be free. You don’t have to update but if you want the features then you do. It is very easy so don’t worry about that. No formatting or loss of any files on your Macs.

If your Mac is on this list then you will be able to upgrade via the Mac App Store (and no where else):

    iMac (mid 2007 or later)
    MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, 2.4/2.2 GHz), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)

  5. If you aren’t sure which Mac you have then click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your Mac > About This Mac > More Info… > It will show you all the details of your Mac.

  6. @jacqui “New Desktop (It offers you a proper galaxy as a background image)”

Proper? So the ones we’ve had in the past weren’t proper? I’ve used and loved each one. Don’t get me wrong, I love the ML galaxy desktop background too! It’s my iPhone’s wallpaper and my Mac’s background.

  7. I don’t know what to expect with this upgrade but there were a few things with lion that I didn’t like and I know for a fact you are going to be the first person to DL this! hahaha!

Some very cool features, but I always want to know what they are getting rid of from the other features!

  8. this is great :D i cant wait to download mountain lion i love how apple chooses the software unlike copy stolen andriod with their cake names ;/

i do have a couple of Questions for you:
(1)what programs do you recommend we download on our mac ( as new users )
(2)Do you recommend we download parallel with windows 8

  9. @q8mindspeak are you really comparing android to Mac OS X? (soon to be OS X without the Mac)

    You should check out
Adapter: (converts audio, video and even images)
AppFresh: checks all your installed programs to see if you have any updates for them
Growl: for desktop notifications (you won’t need it when Mountain Lion is released)
BetterTouchTool: make your own gestures and keyboard shortcuts
    iClip
    OmniDiskSweeper
    Dropbox
    UnRarX
    TinkerTool

Just to name a few. I got bored writing descriptions so google them and see what they do and if you want something like that.

Don’t have any experience with parallels so I’ll let Jacqui answer that question.

  10. Mo_Coffee_Plz : It’s an upgrade for the operating system sort of like upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion. So it will be applicable to most of the newer laptops a list was released of those that are not upgradeable.

Bashar : Not free but you can choose not to upgrade it’s up to you. And it’ll be available through the Mac App Store.

F : Nope you didn’t even upgrade to Lion so it’s okay :P

Ross : Thanks for the extra info, and as for the galaxy desktop wallpaper well it features more of the galaxy than the previous ones hehe :) And it’s just a quirky comment no need to take it seriously :)

Marzouq : They are getting rid of some things and making it easier to transition from iPad to the Mac giving your computer the easiness of an iPad is their game.

q8mindspeak : I know I believe the same thing hehe :D And what kind of programs are you looking for? Also I don’t recommend installing Windows on a Mac, just cut the ties to that faulty system and approach the light side :D
