Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah Premieres Islamic Art Movie

September 27, 2012  |  Shout Outs

Most of you by now probably know that my father works for the coolest place, Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah (DAI), and well I am so proud to announce this cool event they will be hosting on the 1st of October at 7:00 p.m. at the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah’s (DAI) al-Maidan Cultural Centre in which the newest documentary “Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World” narrated by Academy Award winning actress Susan Sarandon, will make its debut in the Middle East region.

The showing will be open to the public with free admission to everyone.  The 90 minute film, from executive producers Michael Wolfe and Alex Kronemer, “takes audiences on an epic journey across nine countries and over 1,400 years of history.  It explores themes such as word, space, ornament, color, and water and presents the stories behind many great masterworks of Islamic art and architecture.”

But in the words of my great awesome talented father Abdulkareem Al-Ghadban, who happens to be the DAI Director of Exhibitions and Educational Programmes “We are pleased to be hosting the first showing of ‘Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World’ outside North America, I know the original intention of the film was to share the beauty of Islamic art with people in the west; to give them a sense of our world well beyond the stereotypes.  But the film is equally valuable for viewers in this region.  Periodically we need reminding of our heritage and culture.”  But wait he says more amazing stuff regarding the premiere and how “it is exciting to be screening the Middle East debut of ‘Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World.’ But it’s more exciting to be able to share such a beautiful production with friends of the DAI and with visitors, Monday night will be a very good night.”

So, what are you waiting for? Save the date on your calendars!
