[Travel Log] The Perks of Walking in the Rain

October 3, 2012  |  Travel Log 2012

Day three of the trip took place and was extremely eventful for me, since I went out close to three times with separate parties hehe, it sounds as if I am travelling with an entourage when in fact I am not.  Tuesday was Doctor Appointment day for D and being that I am still jet lagged or something I woke up at 7:00 a.m. again and not being able to go back to sleep.  I don’t know why that is the case but for some reason it’s happening more often lately.  Anyways our doctor’s appointment was at 2:30 p.m. so by 1:30 p.m. we were out of the house and waiting to hail a cab.

It was raining, and what a beautiful rain it was.  10 minutes or so later we arrived at the doctor’s office and were seen by the surgeon who would do D’s surgery on Thursday.  She was asked routine questions, given some prep-medication and sent on our way.  We decided since we were on 55th street to walk down to Times Square and have some lunch.  It’s crazy how mother is not used to this kind of walking lifestyle and how she sometimes feels its a bit too much.  But in the end instead of heading out to Olive Garden, we decided to go into Juniors as it was closer and they were getting winded (D and Mom).

In we went, I had my usual Roast Turkey with mashed potatoes and brocolli and for dessert I had their delicious famous Strawberry shortcake which was absolutely to die for!  N was finished with her internship and she called asking where we were and we had not yet finished from Junior’s so we waited for her to arrive, had our dessert together and off we went.  Since we were in Times Square and Mom had given N a brand new iPhone 5 as a gift we decided she should get her nano-SIM right then and there because if she didn’t, she wouldn’t get it.

We divided the group into two parts, D and Mom went back to the apartment and N and I went into AT&T so she could get her nano-SIM and I could get a Prepaid nano-SIM line to use on my iPhone 5 and especially since in Omaha, NE T-Mobile is really lame and doesn’t work that well at all.  Two birds, one stone.

The moment we were done we decided to take the subway back home.  N hates taxi cabs and well I don’t blame her with the way they drive around here it’s seriously insane.  Unfortunately one of the subways we got on, went express so instead of stopping at our street it dropped us further downtown than it should.  Luckily for me, we were on 14th Street at Union Square.  Right next to my beloved, Best Buy store.  We took a brief look, browsing for some cool iPhone 5 cases before we walked our way down to 29th street.  That was around a 15 street/block walk and by 7:15 p.m. I walked into our apartment.

Earlier in the day, I had promised D that we would go see a movie and the moment I walked in after I visited the loo I was about to change out of my clothes when she expressed that she was waiting anxiously and really wanted to go.  Luckily for us, the movies were just 1 street down from N’s apartment and off I went out again to watch “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, lovely movie more on that in the next post of course.

Movie was over, we walked around to find some dinner but mostly everything was closed and that Falafel cart was nowhere to be seen so back home we went where we ordered some food from a nearby deli to have it delivered here.

That pretty much wrapped up the day and today is the day we leave my sister’s apartment and head over to Connecticut to be closer to the hospital where my sister D is having her surgery.
