[Fall TV 2013 Preview] Welcome to the Family on NBC

September 12, 2013  |  Fall TV 2013, Preview, TV

Now that the fall season is almost upon us, I recently had access to the pilot episodes of four of next season’s comedies.  I thought I would share my thoughts and insights regarding what we’ll be seeing come mid-September.  First on the list is “Welcome to the Family” which will be airing Thursdays on NBC.

Welcome to the Family

Network: (NBC)

Premiere Airing: Thursday October 3

Staring: Mike O’Malley (GleeYes Dear), Mary McCormack (In Plain SightThe West Wing), Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives), Justina Machado (Desperate HousewivesPrivate Practice), Joseph Haro (AwkwardGlee), and Ella Rae Peck (DeceptionGossip Girl).

About: NBC has decided to jump on the family comedy shows by premiering a series which centers on how two families expectations for their graduating children is turned upside down.  The Yoders starring Dan and Caroline (Mike O’Malley and Mary McCormack) a middle class white family were excited to see their daughter Molly graduating from High School, a daughter they’d never thought would see the day of graduation were shocked to find out that they could no longer turn her bedroom into that gym they always wanted because their daughter (Ella Rae Peck) is pregnant.  The Hernandez’s starring Miguel and Lisette (Ricardo Chavira and Justina Machado) a Latino lower class family were definitely proud of their valedictorian son who had just graduated and was about to leave to an Ivy League school Junior (Joseph Haro).  Unfortunately now that Molly is pregnant and Junior has decided to propose the two families must try and get along.  Easier said than done.

Thoughts: The moment I saw Ricardo Chavira on the screen I knew I missed seeing him as Carlos on Desperate Housewives.  I gave the pilot the benefit of the doubt and continued watching it without any interruptions.  I actually liked it, not sure if it will survive the fall season axe but for what its worth there were plenty of funny moments and definitely some heartfelt ones too.  Will I continue watching it? Well I believe it will join my Thursday Comedy Lineup until that axe drops but if it premieres well it might live to see a full season.

Rating: [Watch Just For Fun]
