[Fall TV 2013 Preview] The Goldbergs on ABC

September 24, 2013  |  Fall TV 2013, Preview, TV

Joining the #TrophyWife will be the new comedy series #TheGoldbergs on ABC Network.  The pilot of this show has also shown up way before it’s premiere date and I was lucky enough to watch it.  It’s got me confused as to whether I like it or not so I’ll just let you judge my conflict.

The Goldbergs

Network: (ABC)

Premiere Airing: Tuesdays September 24

Starring: Wendi McLendon-Covey (Rules of Engagement), Jeff Garlin (Arrested Development), George Segal (Just Shoot Me!), Troy Gentile (Hotel for Dogs), Hayley Orrantia (X Factor), and Sean Giambrone.

About: A 1980s family sitcom follows the ‘Goldberg’ family around through the voice of Adam (Sean Giambrone) the youngest member who documented their lives with his video camera.  Adam Goldberg (an actual actor, singer, creator) actually did most of the things that are shown in the show and you get to see them at the end of the show in a rolling reel.  The family consists of the mom Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) who is overprotective over her children and sometimes drives them insane.  The father Murray (Jeff Garlin) who reminds me so much of all fathers.  And the children Barry (Troy Gentile) and Erica (Hayley Orrantia) along with their Grandfather Albert Solomon (George Segal) also star.

Thoughts: Another show about a family and their interactions, it seems that everyone is trying to follow the “Modern Family” formula yet not always succeeding.  The show was sweet and cute but that’s all it was.  I could not see it lasting a full season let alone going onto multiple seasons unless something extraordinary happens.  The only fun part I saw in the show is how it takes place in the 80’s and we really don’t have many comedy shows that are placed in the past (it’s mostly the drama shows). Would I recommend you guys to actually sit and see it, I don’t think so.  You can give it a shot and form your own opinion of course but I see the chopping block waiting for just this show in the first few weeks.

Rating: [SKIP IT]
