Cleveland – Day Two

July 9, 2008  |  Cleveland '08, Food, My Life

I think I will stick to naming the posts as I am doing right now since it’s much easier to track and simpler than trying to find something creative or relative to the post right?  Anyways so the 7th of July was our second day in Cleveland and was the day my dad had his appointment with the Dr in Cleveland Clinic, one of the best hospitals in the US for Heart Problems.

We were all jet lagged, me mostly since I slept very early the afternoon before and woke up at around 3:30am and stayed awake all day, well for the most part of it.  So preparing ourselves to go out wasn’t that difficult, we got ready and headed downstairs to wait for the Shuttle Buses that would take us to the International Registration Center.  There we met with our advisors and got the instructions we had to follow, such as opening a bank account, meeting our translator, going to get the tests done.

Afterwards, Dad, Fee, and I headed to the Clinic which was a walk away from the Center to start his tests, 8 major tests were done all in one day, can you believe that?! In Kuwait it usually takes like 3 years for you to do 1 test!!  After most of the basic tests were done we headed towards Key Bank in order to open an account for Dad to have the Embassy wire us the hospital expenses and all that jazz.  But before we went to the bank we headed to Chicago Deli Restaurant to have breakfast where I had a Cheese Omlette.

Before the day was over we were to meet the Consultant put on my Dad’s case who was Dr. Simpfendorfer, a famous Heart Consultant, where he was told that he will be having his Open Heart Surgery on the 9th of July and that it was the best way to correct his problem, the blockage in his left coronary arteries.  The procedure is known as a Cabbage or a Bypass and so regardless of the shock that my father felt when he heard that, he was prepared for it.  I wasn’t however, and sadly I wasn’t even there because before we got to meet with the Doctor I got so tired that I had to go back to the hotel.

Anyways, they came back, Fee and Dad, and relayed everything that happened to them.  So all in all, our second day was spent in the hospital with Dad having tests and later in the evening at home.
