I will be starting a series of my Travelling posts and the awesome stuff I bought from the States and one of the things was an accessory I got for my iPad2 as well as my little sister’s iPad2!
It’s the Gelaskin!
I can’t really take the time off from my day of walking around the city to sit and write about my adventures but sometimes I just feel that I have to! Because what I’ve done these past few days was awesome! I will tell you guys more but let me summarize my New York stay in just a few words right now and also include my gadget shopping spree I went on!
New York (I Love YOU!)
May 1st- I got in and later that evening I went to see an Off-Broadway Musical called “Avenue Q” it was amazing! A Parody Puppet show telling us that life isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be hehe but we should make it work for ourselves! Awesome I had tons of fun!
May 2nd- Went to a Broadway Show called “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” for those of you old enough to know the movie which is quite old, it’s a show about 3 drag queens in Australia taking their show from Sydney to Alice, Australia so that “Tick” can finally meet his son. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT! It was simply amazing! The costumes, the music, the insane-ness of it all! It was a diva show and I just absolutely adored it! I would definitely recommend you all to check it out! If you don’t feel like jumping out of your seat to sing along with them then you don’t have a musical heart in you!
May 3rd- *aka yesterday!* I went to see a live-taping of *wait for it* “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and OMFG it was amazing! The guests of the night were Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Hudson, and ELMO! I had an insane time! I will definitely tell you more later on in an individual post but I just had to put this out there! It was simply amazing and I love ELMO! He gave us all free DVDs to take home with us! I am going to cherish it for life! The Roots (the band) were there as well and I just simply love them! *sigh* I want to see more Jimmy!
That’s my amazing life so far in New York it’s simply insane and I love it! I wish I could spend more time here but by then I’ll be insanely flat broke and that can’t happen!
Now onto the next topic, I’ve acquired lots of cool gadgets on this trip but some of the things I’d like to mention are:
- A brand new sparkling MacBook Pro 17″ with a 2.2Ghz Quadcore i7 Processor, 8GB of RAM, 750GB HDD, and an Anti-Glare Hi-Resolution screen which is absolutely awesome!
- A brand new Black iPad 2 3G & Wifi 64GB (which took me a week to track down! Now they are available at the Apple Store in Fifth Avenue)
- A Blackberry Playbook 16GB Wifi Only Model
And those are only some of the cool things I’ve got well I guess these were my biggest purchases! I am just insanely in love with the US and wish I could move and live here but then again I would be broke all the time! I would live in the Apple Store, trust me I would! I love you sisters and parents! Thanks for this awesome time! I have a few more days left until then I will come back with some awesome posts but at the moment I just want to enjoy my insane time!
So I’m desperate for a new gadget and with it being Mother’s Day (Happy Mother’s Day to all you women and some men out there!) I had to get my hands on one, so I grabbed the 32GB Wifi only White Model as I was desperate and I will be going to the States in less than a month anyways so I will grab the one I want from there, this will be a secondary and can be given to Lujain if she behaves and get’s good grades or give it to Sister #3 who has stood in line since 6:45AM on Sunday morning waiting for the iPad 2 only to have it sold out!
So I will be giving you an Impressions post very soon but right now just enjoy this picture since I really went crazy on myself and took pictures using Instagram (my favorite iPhone 4 Application) as well as my older digital camera (I dunno where I put the other one).
P.S. I got it from Mobile2000 for 229KD which is the best deal out there today, and in comparison with the 180KD Apple US price (inclusive of Taxes) and around 10-20KD Aramex/Customs Charges It’s almost 29KD more than the US price. So in the end it was a good deal.
My order has been cancelled stating that I have exceeded the allowed limit per customer, bear in mind I only ordered 2 iPads. Therefore I will be asking one of my sisters to grab me one from one of the Apple Stores in her State. That way I can still get it without having to wait for the 2-3 weeks shipping estimate if I ordered it online.
And that’s all folks.
Jacqui is sad.

For those waiting to take the plunge, the iPad 2 has now become available on the Apple Store (US) and is available for ordering. It’s been available for the past 15 minutes or less! I officially placed an order on two models! (White 3G + Wifi 64GB) as well as (Black 3G + Wifi 64GB) Shipping estimate is going to be 3-5 business days let’s hope they come earlier than that!
So I woke up this morning all happy and cheery because Apple was holding it’s iPad 2 event and announcing the next generation of iPads! And they looked bad ass too! They have made some significant changes, hell some might say they are kinda major in one way or another. All rumors were pointing towards a major redesign however others stated that we shouldn’t get our hopes up, mine were up and well met! Below you’ll see what’s new and now I am confused as to what color to get, only thing I know for sure is that I’m ordering both the Black and White next week and well whichever color I don’t choose will go to my mother :D This is what happened in today’s event!
Steve Jobs made a surprise appearance and spoke to us first giving us some important numbers, 100 million books have been downloaded to date from the iBook Store and not only that, but Random House is bringing their entire US Catalog which has more than 17,000 titles to the store. [Link] Reading is definitely an awesome thing to do on the iPad and iOS devices. Not only was that important but Apple has recently shipped its 100 millionth iPhone (woooohooo!) and sold 15 million iPads in 2010 which as Steve Jobs puts it “more than every tablet PC ever sold” now that’s awesome since there are now more than 65,000 Apps available specifically for the iPad in comparison to Honeycomb’s 100 apps. Next came the announcement every Apple fanboy and fangirl have been waiting for! The iPad 2! [Link]
- All new design, not tweaked, not marginal improvements but a new design.
- New Chip: The Apple A5 Dual Core Processor which gives you up to 2 times faster, Graphics up to 9 times faster, uses the same low power as A4 and the first dual-core tablet to ship in volume.
- Thinner: It is 33% thinner than the first generation iPad making it 8.8 mm vs the 13.4 mm of the previous models.
- Lighter: It went from 1.5 lbs to a mere 1.3 lbs not a significant change in numbers but it’s easier to hold and has a better feel to it.
- Dual cameras: Front and Rear Facing Cameras
- Two Colors Availability Instantly: Black and White available.
- Same 10 hour battery life that we all love!
- Same price points, capacities, starts at 499$ for the 16GB Wifi Model and goes all the way up to 829$ for the 64GB 3G+Wifi Model
- HDMI Mirrored Video Out from Dock Connector also available for 39$, this adapter provides up to 1080p for all apps while allowing charging.
- Ships on March 11th to the US and 26 more countries on March 26!
Not only that, but we saw an introduction to the Smart Covers: Instead of giving the iPad a Case, a cover was made that bends around and acts as a typing stand, automatically wakes the iPad when opened, sleeps iPad when closed, it’s magnetic. It comes in two models Polyurethane for 39$ or leather for 69$ in assorted colors (5 different ones for each model), it’s insanely easy to remove! [Link]
Two final apps got some lovin’ the iMovie for iPAd which has a new Precision Editor, Multitrack Audio Recording, Airplay, and is now universal between iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch. And the introduction of a new app GarageBand for iPad which gives you Touch instruments, or you could plugin real instruments, and lots more music loving things; both apps available on March 11th and each priced at 4.99$. Thanks Stevie for bringing me out of another mood by giving me something new to obsess over!
