One of the best ways I think to classify the new TV Shows is by the days they air and not the genre because well you will definitely be following them the next day and it’ll give you a sense of what type of show to watch if you’re looking for something new that day. This September we see a number of new Monday TV Shows of which I will be giving you glimpses for: The Event, Lone Star, Chase, Hawaii Five O, and Mike & Molly. Call this a little preview without any spoilers just to give you a sense of what the show is about.
The Event: (NBC) It’s a new conspiracy thriller show given to us by the network that brought (Heroes, Chuck, and more) NBC. This show basically follows a similar equation to that of “Flash Forward” [for those of you who haven't seen that show it was about a supernatural event that occurred stopped the world for a few minutes made everyone drop to sleep and see what their future is in the next 6 months, when they woke up all havoc and chaos was loose and the show tried to figure what that Flash Forward meant] but I’m not here to write about that show, I’m here to tell you that this show tells you the story of Sean Walker[Jason Ritter] (who I believe to be the next Milo Ventimigilia in this show) and how he tries to investigate the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée, Leila, and during that investigation he begins to expose the biggest cover-up in US History. This show kind of hits you over the head with the stuff you see, the pilot had you seeing events happening but you kept on asking “What’s going on?! What the hell is going on?!” the pilot tried to lay down the story but nothing much was discovered we were just given a nice prologue to “The Event”.
This show stars: Jason Ritter, Blair Underwood, Laura Innes, Bill Smitrovich, Wes Ramsey, Lisa Vidal, Taylor Cole, Zeljko Ivanke, and Scott Patterson.
For now it’s rated as: [I'll watch this until things start to unfold]
Lone Star: (FOX) Now this show is more of a drama, a soap if you’d like to call it that. This show talks about the life of Robert/Bob Allen an insanely handsome, charismatic con artist who creatively constructed two different lives in two different parts of Texas. Not only is it two different lives but two different women, a wife and a girlfriend who later on becomes a wife. It kind of blew my mind in a sense how could he marry two women, in the US it would be called Bigamy. But then again it’s all in the land of fiction. Robert/Bob learned to be a con artist from his Dad who taught him everything he knew until you see that Robert is actually surpassing his teacher. I am not sure that this type of show will last in this time and age but it’s sure nice to see it try. The pilot however was very slow and I found myself at times trying to pull myself back into it but not being able to.
This show stars: James Wolk, Adrianne Palicki, Eloise Mumford, Jon Voight, Bryce Johnson, Mark Deklin, and David Keith.
In my books it gets a rating of: [I'll watch until it gets cancelled which could be soon]
Chase: (NBC) This network seems intent on bringing us a lot of action series to drive us insane at least. This show is about the US Marshal’s and how they hunt down America’s most dangerous fugitives. It gives us Annie Frost, a deputy whose sharp mind and Texas upbringing helps her track down almost all the violent criminals on the run. It also gives you her team played by many other actors. One thing I am not sure is what this whole show is about because from what I saw in the pilot it’s just chasing the bad guy and catching him all the time. There seems to be no substance no deeper story, it’s like if you miss an episode it’s okay because it really doesn’t matter the next episode might not be tied to this one. I am not sure how it will survive the axe but I’m looking forward to seeing it get cancelled.
This show stars: Kelli Giddish, Cole Hauser, Jimmy Godfrey, Amaury Nolasco, Marco Martinez, Rose Rollins, Daisy Ogbaa, Jesse Metcalfe, and Luke Watson.
My rating for this is: [SKIP IT!]
Hawaii Five-O: (CBS) Now this is a network that I love, it brought me my favorite “The Big Bang Theory” and so much more! I have to admit when I saw the trailer I wasn’t that interested because it was being pushed off as the newer version of the old 70s show and since I wasn’t alive then it didn’t seem like a reason for me to watch it. But after Swera badgered me into it, I added it to my list to grab a look and let me just say one thing that in the midst of all those new Series premieres this one rocked my boat! It had the right action, comedy, drama, everything it was awesome! This show wastes no time in establishing the story and it’s about Steve McGarret a Naval officer who returns to Hawaii to investigate his father’s murder and is asked to head up an elite police task force. He only accepts it once he realizes that it’s the only way that’ll help him understand what went down. I was on the edge of my seat from the opening scene to the closing. The cast interacted beautifully there were no awkward moments and it just flowed smoothly, in my books this gives me some of White Collar + Las Vegas in a Hawaii setting with more guns than I can think of.
This show stars: Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, and Grace Park.
My Rating is: [WATCH IT WATCH IT NOW!]
Mike & Molly: (CBS) Brought to you by Chuck Lorre the same creator of “The Big Bang Theory” so you know I am in love with this from the get-go. This show is here to give us a nice comic relief from all the action and drama in our life. It’s a light show very easy to follow and has lots of jokes for you to laugh at. I have to admit there were no laugh out loud moments for me while watching this but I can see it going places because I love Melissa McCarthy and she’s an adorable actress. This show gives you the story about a working class Chicago couple who met by chance at a Overeaters Anonymous meeting. Officer Mike Biggs, a cop who wants to sincerely lose weight meets Molly Flynn, a cute and likeable fourth-grade teacher who is living home with her sexy older sister Victoria, and their mother Joyce both of whom are stick thin! It doesn’t help when you want to lose weight that you see your mother and sister sitting there having a big fat chocolate cake doesn’t it? Well these two meet and you get to see their sparks flying around. They look adorable together and I like this show I am putting it on my must watch for comic relief Mondays list.
This show stars: Billy Gardell, Melissa McCarthy, Reno Wilson, Katy Mixon, Swoosie Kurtz, and Nyambi Nyambi.
My rating here is: [DEFINITELY MUST WATCH!]
And that my friends is my two cents on the Monday Series Premieres we saw the last week. Here is hoping we keep the awesome ones and get the lame ones cancelled.
